The Insurance Commission, in partnership with the Department of Finance, GIZ (German Society for International Cooperation), and German Cooperation, convened a seminar on Alternative Dispute Resolution for Microinsurance (ADREM) on 7 March 2014 at Holiday Inn Clark in Pampanga. KMBA General Manager Silvida Reyes-Antiquera was accompanied to the seminar by Diobert F. Calanza, KMBA account officer; John M. Jacinto, account officer; and Evangeline E. Pe, operations manager (in the photo above with Mr. Ferdinand George Florendo, deputy commissioner of the Insurance Commission).
The seminar discussed the implementing guidelines of ADREM, involving mutual benefit associations, commercial insurance companies, and cooperative insurance societies; procedure for the accreditation of mediator-conciliators; process flow of resolving disputes from the complainant or policy holder up to the respective MBA or cooperative, then to the MBA association (in the case of MBAs), and all the way to IC if no settlement has been reached. It was emphasized, however, that as much as possible, disputes should be settled at the local level to save on cost and time incurred in the normal litigation process.
