As part of the celebration of the 8th National Microinsurance Week, the RIMANSI Organization for Asia and the Pacific, Inc. organized a forum on 24 January 2014 with the theme, “Overcoming claims settlement challenges during catastrophe.” KMBA was among the organizations in the RIMANSI network which participated in the Forum. (Shown on the right photo above, flanking Stephen Grant and Robert Forsythe, consultants from the Canadian Cooperative Association, are Adrian P. San Andres, KMBA accounts officer, Judea T. Gutierrez, member of the KMBA Board of Trustees, Chona B. Capayas KMBA president, Silvida Reyes-Antiquera, KMBA general manager, and Edelyn Y. Ocampo, member of the KMBA Board of Trustees.)
The Forum included a presentation from CARD Mutual Benefit Association, Inc. on its Supertyphoon Yolanda experience on “beating the 1-3-5- day claims settlement during difficult times” and from ASKI (Alalay sa Kaunlaran, Inc.) on a case on “rising above the challenges of claims settlement in agriculture microinsurance.” Moreover, Stephen Grant and Robert Forsythe from the Canadian Cooperative Association shared, during the afternoon workshop, their experience in running a Mutual Guarantee Fund in Canada. The CCA experience could serve as inputs as Philippine MBAs explore the possibility of putting up a similar setup in addressing various risks while protecting the MBA as an institution and its obligations to the members.
